Steam & Engine of Australia

Steam & Engine of Australia - Pictures - Science Works Power of the Past 1995

Rosebery Brand: Rosebery
Type: 3c vertical single cylinder governed
Year: 1940s??
Fuel: petrol/kerosene
Horsepower: 3hp
Origin: Australia
Owner: Paul Pavlinovich (mine :-)
Story: Usually it drives an old conveyor/bag lifter which I obtained from Irwin Stock Feeds in North Melbourne, Victoria. The engine itself was found in a garden centre in Melton, Victoria near my home hiding under a canvas tarp. I purchased it, and restored it to its current state. This was my first engine restoration project.

The engine is water cooled using a hopper on top of the cylinder head. The engine will run for about 2 hours at a time quite happily then needs a ten minute rest (otherwise the water in the hopper boils!)

Lister Brand: Lister
Type:
Year:
Fuel: petrol
Horsepower: 7hp
Origin: Dursley, England
Owner: Brian
Story: The engine was restored from scrap by Brian. The restoration involved a complete rebuild from the ground up. I have seen this engine run for almost 10 hours straight without needing any attention at all, it just chugs away! It is a single cylinder governed. The flywheels seen here would not normally be found on this type of engine, the originals were in such poor condition that Brian replaced them with a heavier set from a larger Lister engine of similar vintage. The engine often wins awards at shows simply due to its "people appeal".
