Maytag Gasket Troubles - Applies to All 2 Stroke Engines
While the question asked below was about Maytag Motors (Engines unless your name is Dave) specifically, it really applies to all
small two stroke engines that have an integrated fuel tank...
Bo Hinch mmco@cox-internet.com asked for help...
I NEED HELP . Was going to roast my first batch of peanuts yesterday ,
peanuts were in roaster , lit the burners , started the maytag ( its been a
little hard to start lately ) and it ran about 5 minutes . It quit running
like it was out of gas , so , shut off burners , let cool down for a few
minutes , mixed up a gallon of gas , filled the tank and restarted engine .
After about 5 minutes of running , I lit the burners again , ran another 2
minutes or so , then started losing power . Shut everything off , let cool
down , removed spark plug checked it in the Champon cleaner , cleaned it ,
rechecked again , hooked up to coil wire and showed good fire . Installed in
motor and tried to start . It would hit once on the begenning of cranking
and would not fire too keep running . Removed the carb .and checked it .
After about two hours I quit . Came back this morning , started on second
crank , ran for about 10 minutes and then a rerun of all above . As of
right now , it fires once when cranked but will not continue to run . Any
ideas or help is appericated . Sorry about this long post .

First things first.
You need to make sure that every gasket is sealed tight as a
drum. I use shelac on em all. My 92 starts on the first or
second kick EVERY time, and has since the day I got her
running. All it took to get it running was to shelac the
carb gasket. You might need to put a ned condensor in,
cause it sounds like it has problems after it get hot. So,
first I would seal the carb gasket, and then I would replace
the condensor. You can get one at Rip Off Shack, but I can
not remember which one you need. Did you clean the check
valve REALLY good? Despite what everyone seems to think,
the 92's are really good running engines if you take a few
simple steps with them first. Oh, one other thing I have
found. Put a NEW plug in, once you clean em in one of them
spark plug cleaners they tend to foul VERY fast.
Hope this helps.
