Wards Sawmill Catalog(ue) - One Man EdgerNote: This catalogue is purely historic - I do not sell anything - please don't join the long line of people who ask me to supply items you see here!
Next to the sawmill itself, an Edger is the most important machine used in making lumber. A commercial outfit is not complete without one. An Edger increases production and reduces operating costs by relieving the sawmill of all except coarse dimension cuts. It increases income by producing the highest grade lumber, commanding higher prices-and gives fast low cost output of small dimension cuts. Page 2 shows how you can acquire this valuable additional equipment for only $7 a month. Wards Edger has 20-inch maximum width clearance - it double edges stock from 21/2 to 151/2 inches wide. Adjustable guide fence provides for single edging boards which come from the sawmill with one edge perfect-and provides for simultaneous edging and ripping. Extra fixed saw may be added for double edging and ripping. The shift saw has over 10-inch travel. The fixed saw may be set in any desired position. Guide fence has 6-inch shift travel. A gauge with large figures shows settings clearly. High speed feed gives board travel of 115 feet per minute with edger saws running at 2000 R. P. M. Feed live roll is corrugated for positive drive. Plain pressure roll, 3 inches in diameter, is gravity type. Arbor is 11/2 inches outside diameter and runs in babbitted split bearings, with shims for clearance adjustment. Extra Gang Rip Saw Arbor is listed below. The two edging saws included are 12-inch diameter, 8 gauge thick, with 2-inch hole. They are mounted on bushings with fixed and screw collars, the shift saw being broached for spline on arbor. Fixed saw bushing has safety set screw. Maximum depth of cut, 41/2 inches. Sturdy frame is of composite structural steel and gray iron castings, with lugs for bolting to base and to side rails of board conveyor bench. Pulley is 5 inches diameter with crowned face for 6-inch bolting. Requires about 5 H. P. to operate. Shipped from Factory near Kansas City, Mo. Allow 5 days. 287 SM 2871-15 1/2-inch Edger.
