P., available With or Without Clutches, Gear Reductions, Electric Starters and Generators, Radiators, Fuel Tanks, Ignition, Controls. Wards can furnish many engines for operation on Kerosene, Fuel Oil, or Natural Gas. Write for detailed descriptions, specifications, and power charts--state purpose to which engine will be put, H. P. required by driven machine, speed of driven machine, and type of fuel to be used. Power for Your Ward Sawmill Amount of Power Required-The quantity of lumber which can be sawed with any sawmill depends largely upon the amount of power used to operate itthe greater the horsepower the greater the sawmill output. Under no circumstances should the sawyer attempt to operate a Ward Sawmill with less than 12 Brake H. P. If the sawmill is equipped with a Power Feed operated by the same power unit that drives the saw, never use less than 22 Brake H. P. However, for fast, peak production from a Ward Sawmill without Power Feed about 30 Brake H. P. is required, while about 40 Brake H. P. is required for top production on mills equipped with power feed. Wards Rebuilt Chevrolet Power Unit above meets all these needs! Type of Power Unit-Wards Sawmills can be operated by stationary engine, tractor, electric motor, or steam engine-if of sufficient H. size. Even an old automobile engine makes an excellent source of power when equipped with Wards Governor-Pulley Outfit (Page 9). It is essential that your Power Unit be equipped with a governor so that a constant, uniform speed can be maintained. When a saw cuts through a log its speed is momentarily reduced because of the extra load put on it by friction against the wood. This extra load is transmitted to the power unit-causing a momentary slowing down of engine speed. The governor instantly compensates for this extra load by opening the carburetor and allowing the engine to return to its proper speed. |
