Designed for Average Farm Duty! Sawing features you would
never expect for so little money! Accuracy to sixteenths of an inch!
Well-constructed throughout, Wards Wood Carriage Sawmills are made of
selected Douglas Firwith joints tightly fitted and securely bolted.
Other parts are described more fully on Pages 4 and 5 Part time
sawyers, even if inexperienced, find them easy to operate and produce
quality lumber. Surprisingly little power is required, yet they handle
logs of 20-in. diameter, and even up to 24-in. occasional overload.
Extra profit opportunities, making ties, crating, small wood articles,
neighborhood sawing, etc., are suggested on Page 2. However, for steady
commercial use, we recommend Wards Steel Carriage Sawmills on Pages 4
and 5.
Wards efficient Hand-Crank Feed, designed for easy
manual operation, is included with Wards Complete Sawmill Outfits. This
Hand-Crank Feed, pictured on the Sawmill above, is the best feed
obtainable when a small supply of power-about 12 to 15 Belt H. P.-is
available. This power is within the range of a 4-cylinder Chevrolet,
Model T Ford, Fordson, All'
Is' Chalmers Model B, or Farmall F-12 or F-14 Tractors. If
greater power is available, and larger production desired, either Wards
Variable Friction Power Feed or Wards Slipping Belt Power Feed is
recommended. If one of these Power Feeds is wanted, select your Sawmill
separately at bottom of page (a cording to sawing length desired), the
Feed from Page 7, the Saw from Page 8, and Pulley from Page 9. Order
similarly if you prefer a saw of different type, diameter or quality
from the Wards Superior Quality swage tooth saw furnished with Complete
mills. Refer to Page 2 if buying on Time Payment Plan. Wards Wood
Carriage Sawmills can be equipped with ShingleMaking Attachment as
shown in picture of mill. Not included with sawmill outfits, but listed
on opposite page. Chucks easily removable when Mill is used for sawing
lumber. Shingle-Maker can also be equipped with attachment for making
Shakes and (Page 7) for cutting small dimension stock shorter than the
distance between top dogs. End Dogs only, for making box stock,
furniture squares, plaster lath, etc., also available.
Wards Complete Sawmills include the following
equipment: Wood Carriage on Rollers, with headblocks, top dogs, set
works, and flat and V-type track.
Standard Duty Mandrel Assembly with 54-inch mandrel,
saw collars and nut, bearing boxes, arbor nut wrench, adjustable cast
iron saw guide, lead adjusters, and set collar.
Pulley, all steel, with 6 3/4-inch crown face (takes a
5 or 6-inch belt). Choice of 10 to 24-inch diameter as required. State
speed at which engine will be operated and diameter of pulley on engine
so that we we can send the proper diameter Sawmill pulley. (If you
order a Sawmill without a Saw, state speed at which saw you have is
hammered to operate).
Base Hardware consisting of steel rods, nuts, and brackets,
for bracing wood base which you make from Licensed Plans (see Page 2).

You Can Select Your Own Wood Carriage Sawmill!
The Complete Wood Carriage Sawmill Outfits at top of page are the most
popular combinations, proved by experience to meet average
requirements. It, for any reason, you want other equipment, you can
build up a combination that fits your exact requirements, by starting
with one of the Carriage Assemblies. Wards Wood Carriage Assemblies are
available in three lengths-to take logs from a maximum length of 10 ft.
to a maximum length of 20 ft. Select a carriage of sufficient log
length, keeping in mind possible future requirements. Then, from the
other pages of this book, select the other equipment and attachments
you want. Two types of Power Feeds are available, Page 7. Refer to Page
8 for type and diameter of saw you want. All carriages below require a
right hand saw with 1 3/8-in. center hole and take saws up to 52 inches
diameter. Sawmill Pulleys are listed on Page 9.
