What do y'all use to line your hot tube chimneys these days? I'm not blessed with a stash of asbestos so I'm looking for something I can get "off the shelf."
McMaster-Carr lists "Ceramic Fiber Paper" Item 93285K24 that's 1/16" thick, 12" wide x 50' roll for $65. Good for 2300 deg.F Sounds like good stuff, but just a tad more than I really want to spend. Plus that's enough to line a helluva lot of chimneys!!

I can get you fibrefrax by the sq. yard. About the thickness you need too. Also have some thicker blanket material about 3/8 thick...very pliable. We have lots of scrap/trimings here at work (ie. free) Let me know. Will be at Portland... Curt Hollan

Hey Arnie check with your "local friendly live steamers club" for small amounts it is used to insulate the scale boilers, there are two different types used to insulate boilers and I am sure someone would share some with you at a reasonable cost... Do a search on Google for live steamer railroads and it will give you a comprehensive list to look thru... There is also thin somewhat flexible fireplace lining insulation material at Ace Hardware stores that should fit the bill for about $10.00 a roll for a sizable roll, just saw the latter this morning at our local Ace Hardware...Good Luck...
