Steam & Engine of Australia

The Manual Exchange

The Manual Exchange is a place where you can look for manuals you need details from and contact the people who have them to allow you to gain copies of the parts you need. The idea was born on the Stationary Engine Mailing List, but please do not consider the Manual Exchange to be restricted to Stationary Engines.

If you have a manual that you are prepared to make copies of parts or all and send them out to other people or perhaps you're willing to look something up for others, then post the details here (from the current listings).

If you are searching for a manual - then check the current listings for what is available.

A great resource for online manuals is Online Manuals section at Semidiesel.com.

A note about Copyright. Paul Pavlinovich who provides the facilities to operate the Manual Exchange does not support breaching copyright. If you post a manual, you should be sure that either it is not copyright or that its copyright has not been renewed for 50 years (this is local to Australia) before making any copies. The liability for breaching copyright is on the copier of the document. No copies of documents are stored on this server. Take care, I've been bitten by copyright problems and ended up in court - fortunately in my case we settled amicably as the problem was caused by a misunderstanding on my part which once admitted was resolved. In fact the individual who took me to court has photos on Steam & Engine today which are displayed with his permission. If you are copying a vintage engine manual, then if the firm still exists, or someone is holding the estate of the firm then the copyright is probably still valid. Contact the firm and ask their permission. I've never had it refused. Take further care if you are copying a "reproduction". These people who make the reproductions usually hold the copyright for that reproduction if not the original and since they make these reproductions as a business they will probably sue you.
Disclaimer:This is not legal advice. You should take legal advice before you copy anything.
