Listing of RegistrarsIn the context of this site, a Registrar is a person or entity who maintains a list of engines usually by model, serial number, type, location and owner. Sometimes they include more information. Registering your machinery with the appropriate registrar will usually get you a copy of the listing of other people who have the same machinery which will give you an edge in finding parts and advice. Normally by sending in your entry with a stamped addressed envelope and perhaps a small gratuity to cover copying costs will get you on your way.Registering your machinery can also help you if your engine is stolen both as proof of ownership if it is recovered and as a tracing mechanism. A thief is not likely to keep an engine and rally it as they will get caught - they will however sell it to some unsuspecting person who then registers it allowing you to find and recover it. Before buying an engine you can check with the registrar to see if the listed owner is the person you are buying from. In real life this is rarely done as most registrars only have a mailing address rather than telephone, and if you wait too long for a reply your bargain will be lost. If you know of a registrar which is not present, please do add it.
